A Branch From David's Line

A BRANCH FROM DAVID'S LINE

In chapter 11 of the prophesy of Isaiah, in the NLT version it starts out "Out of the stump of David's family will grow a shoot—yes a new branch bearing fruit from the old root. And the Spirit of the Lord will rest on Him—the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and fear of the Lord". This of course speaks of the Lord Jesus Christ, who was also mentioned in (Is 9:2-7), where we find the familiar verse 6 "For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on His shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace. His government and its peace will never end". And of course Isaiah was also the one who told about a virgin conceiving in (Is 7:14) "All right then, the Lord Himself will give you a sign. Look! The virgin will conceive a child. She will give birth to a son and will call him Emmanuel (which means God is with us)". NLT

Isaiah, in this chapter, not only talks about Jesus being a descendent of King David, but he also looks toward a yet future age that we refer to as the "Millennial Reign" of Christ, when He comes back to a renewed heaven and earth, and sets up His earthly reign from a natural rebuilt Jerusalem. Notice verse 9 in the NLT version, which reads "Nothing will hurt or destroy in all my holy mountain, for as the waters fill the sea, so the earth will be filled with people who know the Lord". When we look around at the present condition of our world today, we can hardly believe that such a change will ever happen. But God's Word says it will happen, so as followers of Jesus today, we believe this will happen just as the Word says. But when we read (Rev 21:1-8) we see "the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven like a bride beautifully dressed for her husband". The rest of this chapter describes what we have understood to be heaven, where we go when we die. This New Jerusalem will be the eternal abode for all born again children of God, and it will be located just above the rebuilt city of Jerusalem, from which King Jesus will rein His "Eternal Kingdom". Some songs and poems about a place called "heaven", where Jesus has gone to build custom made mansions for His children, have been very misleading. We need to stick with God's Word, and believe every word, and not some doctrines that are based on some man's theories!!

Sincerely submitted.
