The Word of God Among Us

THE WORD of GOD AMOUNG US

The Word of God comes to us in many different ways; Bible-centered preaching, personal scripture reading, small Bible study groups etc. There are 2 passages of scripture that come to mind that bear on this topic, in the OT (Deut 5:6-21) which is the second recording of the

"10 Commandments". And of course we also have (Matt 5:3-12) which is commonly referred to as "the Beatitudes". The 10 commandments give us the "Law of Moses" which is the basis of the "Old Covenant", often referred to as the "Law" God wanted His people to follow. While the beatitudes show us how Jesus came to fulfill the "Old Covenant" and establish a "New Covenant" which frees us from the burden of the Law. When we are "born again" by the Spirit of God when we accept what Jesus did for us on the cross, and receive Him as Lord and Savior, Father "adopts" us into His family and gives us the gift of the Holy Spirit to abide with us forever! Then we have this same Holy Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead abiding within our life to be our Comforter and Guide.

Our Creator God has thought of everything we would ever need long before we were born. He had it all written in a book called the Bible, which has been translated into more languages than any other book. So most literate people in the whole world have access to God's written Word. In (2 Tim 3:16-17) we read about His purpose in having it recorded. The written Word of God was given to us so that the Holy Spirit, who indwells us as followers of Jesus, always has the Word to instruct and guide us into the truth. It also can prevent us from being led into deception by the many false prophets that Jesus warned would come into the church in these "last days", (Matt 24: 11), and we are already seeing this happen. The Theologian Philip Jacob Spener wrote: "The more at home the Word of God is among us, the more we will bring about faith and its fruits". Let us pray the words of the psalmist in (Ps 119:18) "Open my eyes, that I may see wondrous things from Your Law". From ODB devotional on February 13, 2015 we read "Heavenly Father; we bow in Your presence. Let Your Word be our rule and guide. Your Spirit our teacher, and Your greater glory be our supreme concern, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen". This quote was from John R W Stott, then the author David Egner closed with "When the Word of God is within us, it flows out from our life".

Sincerely submitted.
