WHAT CLASS OF CHRISTIAN ARE YOU?

In a recent article by a well known Christian writer, he stated that in his opinion, all Christians could be classified into three groups. The first group, which is by far the largest, are people who see the sinful condition of the world around them, but consider it impossible to do anything about it. They simply hide behind their shelter of “apathy”, and pretend they haven’t really seen the sin and corruption. In this way they have learned to cope, and keep on living their mediocre “Christian” life style.

The second group of Christians is the near opposite of the first group. They see the sin and corruption in the world all around them and determine to do something about it. These are ones you see pounding pulpits or sidewalks, and raging at the depravity of the ungodly. Their motives might be right, but their methods show no love or compassion in the way they attack anyone even remotely connected to the sin. Their actions may result in correcting certain wrongs, but many potential believers are “turned off” by their methods.

There is however a third group who respond quite differently from the other two. They see the need of the culture to be transformed, but go about it in a completely different way. They see the need to be “conformed into the image of Christ”, so that their actions may be more “Christ like”. This group is much smaller than either of the other two. Throughout history these have been the real “world changers”, who have often been misunderstood and persecuted for their stand. The only thing that keeps them loyal to the cause of Christ is their “obsession with Jesus”. The word obsession means “to think continually about the same thing”.

The scriptures tell us that the name of Jesus” is higher than any other, and is worthy of our praise and adoration! We need to become obsessed with Him if we ever hope to be part of this third group. It seems perfectly clear that neither of the first two groups will ever accomplish God’s will in regards to the problem of sin and corruption in our world. Our only hope is to see this third group expand to the point where we can be a positive influence for righteousness in the world. My prayer is that many of you in your generation will rise to the challenge!!

Sincerely submitted.

Gramp
